The study is basically a historical research and itcovers all the developments made in the cement industry of Pakistan since its inception.The study reveals the importance of the cement sector for any economy by highlightingthe major contributions of the industry in the economic development of Pakistan. Thecontribution of economic development of cement industry in the economic developmentis measured by the value addition of cement sector to Gross Domestic Product (GDP),employment opportunities created by the sector, receipts from exports, taxes paid togovernment and all revenues generated by the industry. The study reveals that the cementindustry plays a key role in the economic development of Pakistan. The contribution ofcement industry is very positive for not only the manufacturing sector but also for theoverall economic development of Pakistan. The cement industry of Pakistan used to be avery tiny industry but it grew with the passage of time and ultimately it entered in theglobal market. The industry contributes in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), it createsemployment opportunities for thousands of people and it creates huge revenue for thegovernment in the form of taxes. The cement industry of Pakistan attracted not onlydomestic investors but also foreign investors. At the end of the study, a critical evaluationof the cement industry, however discloses some major weaknesses of the industry.
